Gott sei dank (Lübeck) (Take my life, and let it be) - Descant

I have been going through a trial recently, a real battle. I woke up today and thought I would do a Bible study to counter the enemy's lies. But I always like to start with worship which I did. As I wanted to wind down to my Bible, songs of consecration and rededication came to my heart, including this one. My life, heart, mind and soul are Yours. I trust Your Word, and I trust You. This song is really a blessing to me this morning.

History of Hymns: "Take My Life, and Let It Be Consecrated"

At the age of seven she began writing poetry with the encouragement of her father, an Anglican clergyman. Although Miss Havergal was in frail health throughout her life, she invested much time in studying, writing, and composing. She learned Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, as well as several modern languages. She also memorized the Psalms, the entire book of Isaiah, and most of the New Testament. Frances Havergal had a beautiful singing voice and was a talented classical pianist. After experiencing a genuine salvation experience as a teenager, she dedicated her talents to singing and working for her Saviour.

This beautiful hymn was written by Frances Havergal in Francis was born in England as the daughter of William Havergal, a pastor, hymn writer, and gifted musician. Arguably, she could have easily gained worldly fame, but she chose instead to dedicate her talent to the Lord. She did not occupy, and did not claim for herself, a prominent place as a poet, but by her distinct individuality she carved out a niche which she alone could fill. Simply and sweetly she sang the love of God, and His way of salvation. To this end, and for this object, her whole life and all her powers were consecrated. She lives and speaks in every line of her poetry.

Hymns Ancient and Modern, hymn: Take My Life, And Let It Be

Swift and beautiful for Thee. Each line begins with the compulsory verb "Take," giving the sense of a continual prayer of petition. It expresses what each of us ought to feel and long for, even if at times we see so much disparity between the words and our actual state that we have to sing most of it in hope and faith. One by one she spoke words of encouragement to those who were lost until at last she had seen all trust in the Lord. All rights reserved.

Take my moments and my days; let them flow in endless praise, let them flow in endless praise. Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee, swift and beautiful for thee. Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from thee, filled with messages from thee.

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee. Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of thy love. Take my feet, and let them be, swift and beautiful for thee. Frances Ridely Havergal has provided us with one of the classic hymns of Christian commitment.

- En que puedo servile, senor.
