Understanding motor learning stages improves skill instruction

Am J Occup Ther ;48 9 — This article addresses implications for the practice of occupational therapy when that therapy is guided by theories of motor learning. In occupational therapy, clients must learn or relearn motor skills through the use of activities.

The occupational therapist must present activities in a manner that elicits the retention and transfer of the desired skills for use in functional settings. Therefore, the therapist should strive for acquisition conditions that facilitate retention and transfer of the learned skills. The processes that underlie motor learning should guide therapy. Three major factors that affect motor learning are environmental conditions, cognitive processes, and movement organization. Examination of the clinical implications of these factors, however, results in contradictory predictions regarding optimal practice conditions for motor skills.

This article explores the successful integration of these factors and its application in occupational therapy practice. It is suggested that increasing the difficulty of the learning context during practice is beneficial for retention. Sign In. Advanced Search. In This Article. Jeffrey A. Am J Occup Ther ;39 1 — This paper presents the event approach to motor skill acquisition as a theoretical treatment of the learning and relearning of motor skills; the emphasis is toward rehabilitation of physical dysfunction. Purposeful activity is viewed as a necessary prerequisite for the formation of coordinative structures, which are the bases for skilled movement. Traditional approaches to motor learning, which focus primarily on the actor, are seen as inadequate to accurately describe motor skill acquisition. The event approach treats the actor and the environment as inseparable in the acquisition of skills.

Michael Spittle , Stephen C. Ferguson II. Motor learning is the study of how we learn or acquire motor skills. Understanding motor learning is important for individuals involved in instructing or teaching movement skills, such as physical education teachers, primary education teachers, coaches and exercise scientists. Motor Learning and Skill Acquisition is organised to initially provide a general understanding of what motor learning is and some important variables related to understanding learning in sport and physical education. Once the reader understands what learning is and some factors that can influence learning, the topic of motor control in introduced. If an instructor understands how someone produces a movement, they will be much better equipped to be able to help a learner to actually do it.

Ужас, правда. Беккер кивнул. - Ты же сказала, что не колешься. Девушка засмеялась: - Это же чудо-маркер.
